Right-Angle AK-2 Cable Assemblies

The Molex Squib Right-Angle cable assemblies are connectors developed by Molex that achieves fail-safe connections in automotive safety-restraint-system. It features AK-2 interface with unique CPA design and welded-cable connection that maintains low and stable contact resistance under severe temperature and vibration conditions.

Airbags and seat-belt pretension designs have become more complex over the last 20 years. These restraint systems are difficult to reach during the vehicle-assembly process, resulting in the need for fail-safe Squib connector mating interfaces. Molex’s compact Squib AK-2 cable assemblies support the growing design constraints by improving assembly conditions.

Up to 25 Squib applications can be found in a high-level class vehicle. Those connectors must ensure a fully reliable connection to the interface, providing low and stable contact resistance over years in long-life conditions. Molex has developed an economical and widely deployed right-angle Squib interconnection system to meet major OEM requirements.

Features

  • AK-2 interface with unique CPA design ensures scoop-proof “Kojri-safe” interconnections and provides a fully reliable mating operation, including in blind-mate conditions,
  • Welded-cable connection design maintains low and stable contact resistance under severe temperatures and vibration conditions for the vehicle’s life span.
  • Large ferrite design with superior performance in filtering Electro Magnetic Interference, from 300 to 1500 MHz.
  • Fully compatible to the two-way interface Code 1, 2 and 3, as defined by the global industry specifications including ISO-TS19072-4 and USCAR 999-U-002-1-Z03 requirements
  • Plug holes on the cover ensures the connector can be tested multiple times during the supply-chain quality process without any damage to the active area of the terminal prior to final connection on theOEM assembly lines
  • Blocked-active Connector Position Assurance (CPA) button design with travel distance over 3.00 mm (.118’’) ensuring the CPA button will not lock prior to mating, provides easy and reliable one-step connector mating and is also manually serviceable (the actuator can be easily gripped between two fingers and pulled back into a pre-lock position with no tool needed)
